Reading Roundup: Feb 14

Reading Roundup is a regular feature of WebEchoes. It exists to limit the number of "read this" posts with minimal commentary on my part.

I've been sick the past week and gotten really far behind. I'm hoping to catch up (and inundate this blog with posts) over the weekend. Here are some links I found before I got ill. They'll have to be enough until Saturday when I expect to post more.

Shrove Tuesday » Celsias
I'm a little bit late with this one (Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day was the 5th). I'm always fascinated by little historical tidbits like this one that explains the tradition of Pancake day.

Box Wings And Backward Fans For Cleaner Skies : TreeHugger
If I'm not mistaken, one of the discount air carriers asked for a new plane design using open rotor geared turbofans. Here's a group designing a new more efficient aircraft (which will probably never be built) with that and a new wing design.

Eco-Clubbing: “Greening” the San Francisco Party Scene (Guest Post) (Triple Pundit)
Restaurants, clubs and functions are certainly one of the places where I observe the least care in terms of what gets thrown where for trash, recycling, etc. I'm thrilled to see that at least someone is showing it needn't be that way. And without asking the patron's to do anything but show up.
