Crazy Idea

Ever since I moved to Providence, I've been thinking that what it could really use is a bike event to show case the city, its neighborhoods, development projects, history, etc. Of course, i've got the experience of the usually well executed Pedal Pittsburgh to draw on.

As a first step in figuring that out, I'm working out a Providence Perimeter bike ride. I have no idea yet how long such a ride would be, or even if it can be done, and if it would really see very much of the city. Of course, Pittsburgh's tour gives many neighborhoods a miss, even on its longest course of 60 miles, so perhaps being all-inclusive shouldn't be a goal.

Anyone know how to go about getting a bike ride organized?

Hmm...not offhand, but I wonder if there are people at Bike Pittsburgh that could put you in touch w/ Pedal Pittsburgh organizers? They in turn might be able to give you pointers about what types of local people you'd need to contact.

Might seem like a tenuous series of connections, but as an advocacy group, BikePgh seems to be pretty open and positive, so if you mention your Pittsburgh link and the fact that you took a class from Erok, there might be some willingness there to hook you up to some support resources.

Oh yeah, and I think it's an awesome idea, and you should totally run with it. :-)
