Capturing waste from auto engines

As I was just saying in my response to Michael Jessen's excellent ZeroWaste piece, we as humans need to learn to do better at getting the most from the resources we use. One that I mentioned was the wasted heat generated by internal combustion engines. And the next thing I happened across was this TreeHugger post about just that topic.

Tritt argued that energy lost from hot engines - by some accounts more than 60% of the automotive combustion cycle's output - could be captured and converted into electricity with the help of thermoelectric devices.
