Efficiency and Consumption

I can't access the source document, but it would appear that there is yet another report that indicates that improved energy/resource efficiency does not reduce overall consumption of that resource. Rather, capitalist growth demands use the efficiency gain to increase overall gains through reinvestment into increases in production.

Its like asking a company making 100 widgets a day to keep producing 100 widgets a day when the price of making the widget goes down. Assuming the cost of manufacture was one of the limiting factors and that there is a market for more widgets, output is likely to go up. Mew production lines brought online to act on the lower manufacturing cost.

Summary and analysis of the report can be found on TriplePundit.
