Wanna End your Virtual Life?

Not going into a reading roundup because I don't want it to get lost in the shuffle. Among other things discussed (such as gender identity), a recent WorldChanging post discusses a product available in which you can contract with "Sabre and Mace - Second Death" to randomly end the live of one of your virtual world identities (only in Second Life at this point). Talk about going out with style. They've built a mausoleum gallery for those who have chosen to used the service. They go so far as to create a will for the avatar, since in Second Life, you may have assets that need to be disposed.

I've always wondered whether we needed a VR world that mimics the real world in so many ways (malls, shopping, commercialism, etc). Do we need to add this as well?
